WWW.DINZD.COM Hollywood Residence
Nestled high above Los Angeles in the Hollywood hills, not far from the iconic Hollywood sign, this residence was conceived as a modern-day medieval castle whose breath-taking views and compact footprint are matched by an oddball grandeur that fuses "industrial chic and old-world interiors". Designed by Kristen Becker of Seattle based architecture firm Mutuus Studio the house was commissioned by entertainment couple actress Mia Sara and director, producer, writer and puppeteer Brian Henson, son of the legendary Jim Henson (think The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock) who wanted a home with a modest footprint. Taking cues from the couple’s travels to Ireland and the great castles they visited, along with drawing from the compactness of their New York City penthouse, their Hollywood Hills Residence embodies California’s luxurious lifestyle in its purest form.
Tribeca Penthouse
A very early inspiration found in castle-like design and atmospheres, led to an emphasis in the monumental and commanding verticality of the space. This purposeful celebration of verticality creates an effortless cohesiveness within the space, masterfully achieved through the use vertical metal stair railings as well as the use of switch glass both for privacy purposes as well as to emphasize the height of the space.
The space showcases a vast array of eclectic furniture, a result of the clients’ continuous travels including a Vladimir Kagan couch that anchors the room. Up the metal and wooden grand stair is the master suite featuring a media room with velvet curtains serving as a temporary division, baked cork flooring and custom leather furnishings.
We founded Mutuus Studio for others like us - those who share a mutual obsession for highly crafted design, and also for those that don’t feel like placing limits on what we design. Our work ranges from residential and commerical to hospitality and interiors. An integral and exclusive part of our studio is our Mutuus Made works that are offered exclusively to our clients. We design and fabricate custom objects, lighting, hardware and materials that enhance the architecture and interiors that we design. We approach each of our projects with attention to detail and limit the number of projects that we have in the studio so we can provide the utmost attention that our clients deserve.
Mutuus(moo-tus)是拉丁語,意為“相互/交換”。
Our name Mutuus (moo-tus) is a the latin word for "mutual / exchange". The name reinforces our studio philosophy that design is inherently collaborative and mutually beneficial. Although each project has a project leader, all of the three partners work together collaboratively on all the projects and lend one anothers expertise to a given project.
