The answer on the top now is (totally) inaccurate…
I don’t understand why Dimitris provided a map of states of Eastern Zhou.

The Han(韓), one of the seven most powerful kingdoms in Eastern Zhou is a completely different name from Han(漢) of the later Han dynasty.
Han（韓）國是東周時期七個強大的王國之一，和后來的漢朝的Han（漢）是兩個完全不同的名字。
Han(漢) had the meaning of the place that prisoners are exiled to. The old Chu kingdom in Eastern Zhou often exiled prisoners to the branch flowing to Yangtze River(the largest river in China), which gave the name to the branch—Han(漢).
1、“漢”在以前有囚犯被流放之地的意思。東周時期的那個楚國經(jīng)常將囚犯流放到長江的那條支流去，所以這條支流就有了漢江這個名字。
Han(漢) also had the meaning of Galaxy. Ancient Chinese often used the word Tian Han(天漢) to represent the Galaxy, which symbolizing something large and high. (Han) River is the origin of Chu kingdom. So they gave that river the name—Han.
2、“漢”在以前還有銀河的意思。中國古人經(jīng)常用天漢來表示銀河，象征著某個大而高的東西。（漢江）作為楚國的起源，所以他們將這條河命名為漢江。
[EDIT] Liu Bang himself was born in the old Chu kingdom before Qin’s unification of China.

BTW, family name of Emperor was not allowed to be mentioned. Maybe another reason.

It has more to do with the founder’s fief than it does where the founder himself was born—or, more broadly, where the individual had their political base—though the names of the dynasties themselves were fairly freely chosen and didn’t obey a single rule.
這更多的與創(chuàng)建者的封地有關(guān)，而不是他的出生地，或者更廣泛點說，他的政治基礎(chǔ)在哪里，當(dāng)然朝代名字的選擇一般都很隨意，沒有規(guī)則可循。
Liu Bang himself was born in the State of Chu, not the State of Han. Later, after the fall of the Qin Dynasty, Liu Bang would later be enfoeffed as lord of Hanzhong in the relatively impoverished Bashu region. Based on that fiefdom, he referred to himself as King of Han. When Liu Bang won the Chu-Han Contention and established himself as emperor, his title was simply carried over to the new dynasty: Han. If Xiang Yu had won, presumably the dynasty he established would be the Chu Dynasty.

This is the general pattern. Tang Gaozu was previously Duke of Tang, a title posthumously created for his grandfather, Li Hu, for example. Song had a bit of a stranger path, since the name of that dynasty was chosen due to the fact that the army the founder Zhao Kuangyin commanded was in Song Prefecture. The Ming Dynasty was named after the religious groups the founder of the Dynasty was involved in in his rise.

The Yuan, meanwhile, was a reference a reading from the Yijing. There are numerous theories on the origin of the Qing, some of them from Manchu, some of them from Chinese.
