Comments twitter facebook Sina Microblog reddit TOKYO, Feb. 6 -- A Japanese city announced recently that it has filed over 300 last lettersby notorious kamikaze pilots with UNESCO for its Memory of the World Register program.
Mayor of Minamikyushu, which is the home to the kamikaze pilots who carried out suicideattacks against the allied vessels during the World War II (WWII), said he wanted theletters could to make people think about the horrors of war and peace, according to localreports.
However, the questions is that how could the letters evoke think of peace? Kamikazesuicide attackers, in fact, were an insane creature of Japan's past militarism and the pilotswere fanatic spiritual followers of the horrible policy and parts of the Japan's war machines.
Officials from Minamikyushu city should know that UNESCO has recognized AuschwitzBirkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp in Poland and as worldheritage, as it fully exposes Nazi Germany's war crimes.
They even can not deny that, in Japan, after the war-reflection statement by then PrimeMinister Tomiichi Murayama was released, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, a relic of U.S.atomic bombing in Hiroshima city, was also enlisted as the world heritage.
But the letters, along with items like past Japanese army flag, military sword andbloodletters collected in the so-called Chiran Peace Museum, only recalled the world'sextreme grief over Japan' s wrong-doings in the WWII, as most of the collections conveymore of the nation's past militarism.
It is hoped that UNESCO could turn down the application of the kamikaze letters, as if itsucceeds, there would be someone that will file Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf as the worldmemory and the notorious Yasukuni Shrine as world heritage.
The new move to whitewash Japan's wartime brutal behaviors reflected that the Japanesesociety is running fast on a way of right-deviation and it is dangerous for the world thatsuch history-ignoring thought become a common sense in the country.
Japan also plans to enlist its modern industrial heritage sites in Kyushu and Yamaguchi, inwhich labors from China and South Korea were enslaved, as UNESCO's world heritage.
On Tuesday, Naoki Hyakuta, one of the governors of Japan's public broadcaster NHK,denied the existence of Nanjing Massacre, following the new NHK chief's wrong remarks on"comfort women" earlier.
All the ridiculous moves trying to cover up its crimes by Japanese rightists will no doubtresult in disgracing Japan itself and twists its national image in the internationalcommunity.
Under a conservative government led by hawkish Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the future ofthe country makes the world worry about as no one knows how far the country will run inthe wrong way.
